Shigure Kintoki by kurokawa-kun Shigure Kintoki by kurokawa-kun
My fifth katana, and what I consider to be my best yet. :D

This is Shigure Kintoki, the katana used by Yamamoto Takeshi in Katekyo Hitman Reborn!. Made in time for the first of many Yamamoto cosplays - Choice!Yamamoto for October Expo 2010.

I learned from my mistake of not using balsa on the hilt with Kyoka Suigetsu, and used it again this time - taking more time and being careful with the wood filler though. Turned out nicely, smoothest yet methinks. =P

This was also my hardest sword yet - the balsa I used for the details on the tsuba is too thick to cut into those intricate wee shapes easily, that took me a few days. Next time I'm gonna get 1mm thick balsa wood instead of 3mm. Should be a lot easier to work with. Also the little swallow pattern on the bottom of the blade was a turd and a half to cut out on the masking tape. ><; But also turned out pretty nicely I reckon! :D

I'm not actually sure if I'm allowed back into the shed to make any more, since when making my Rain Blades for Yamamoto I had a bit of an... incident... with the blue paint. o.o; BUT, if I am allowed, shorter swords like Gin's and Ggio's I do for 40 each. :P

I got a length of strip pine about 90 mm wide, 6mm thick and cut to 40 inches. The handle was 10 inches including hilt, and the blade curve I got by bending a PVC pipe over the wood and tracing the curve. :P
